Position Title: Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Communication Sciences and Disorders

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2026 / July 1, 2026

Position Summary : The Temple University Barnett College of Public Health Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in speech language pathology, beginning Fall 2026. We seek an outstanding scholar and teacher who to join our vibrant, collaborative, and highly interdisciplinary academic community and contribute to our mission of academic excellence, innovative research, and inclusive education.

This faculty member will conduct scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed venues, teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Communication Sciences and Disorders and related areas, seek external funding to support their research activities, mentor and advise students from different backgrounds, and contribute to departmental, college, and university service.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field, completed by September 2026; have a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship; and a commitment to creating inclusive, accessible spaces for all students. Preferred candidates will have a scholarly specialization in dysphagia or acquired speech disorders, with related interests in aging, social determinants of health, community engaged research, or AI tools to support clinical processes; experience teaching and mentoring students from different backgrounds in an inclusive setting; post-doctoral research experience; and evidence of collaborative and interdisciplinary work.

The Department : The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is ranked in the top 10% of training programs in the US. We offer an undergraduate and graduate degree in Speech Language and Hearing as well as certificates in American Sign Language and Linguistics. The CSD Department also works closely with disciplines in other departments including Public Health, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Nursing, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Social Work, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. The CSD department is at the forefront of developing effective assessments and intervention programs for individuals with risk for communication disorders.

The College : The Barnett College of Public Health's mission is to educate, innovate, and transform to bring about healthy, equitable, and thriving communities. Our CEPH-accredited College of Public Health embraces public health in all its disciplinary forms, fostering impactful teaching, scholarship, and interdisciplinary collaborations within and outside the college. The College consists of academic units in the public health disciplines, health professions, and the School of Social Work, enrolling approximately 4,200 students. We focus much of our work on social risks and our scholarship has particular strengths in cancer, obesity, HIV, substance abuse, mental health conditions, mobility research, cognition and language, developmental disabilities, organ transplantation, and aging. College research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, major private foundations, and state and federal agencies. The College is staffed by a robust complement of seasoned professionals within our Offices of Communications and Marketing, Information Technology, Research Administration, and Academic Affairs.
