Job Overview The Environmental Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety, compliance, and well-being of all employees involved in chemical transportation, handling, and cleaning operations, with a strong emphasis on DOT compliance. This position is responsible for ensuring DOT compliance with all company and contract drivers and coordinating all drivers' equipment while maintaining driver safety files and records. Responsibilities and Duties: Subject matter expert on anything DOT/FMCSA related. Responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of the Transportation Department CDL Drivers and equipment. Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA and Hazardous Material rules and regulations. Perform chemical risk assessment evaluation and data entry. Manage and audit company safety & training programs. Inspect terminals/facilities to detect existing or potential safety and health hazards. Determine and implement corrective or preventative measures as needed; follow up to verify new measures have been implemented and processes adhered to. Lead incident investigations of injuries, property damage, spills, and other non-conformances with operational personnel. Prepare reports and other documentation for submittal to insurance, legal, and regulatory bodies. Oversee the administration of insurance claims, including workers’ compensation and Occupational Accidental insurance. Manage company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) including creation, training, revision, and review. Renew all necessary permits and licenses with Federal, State, and local regulatory bodies. Lead safety committee meetings with operations personnel. Participate in and enter the company into association safety contests, including but not limited to CTA, ATA, and NTTC. Maintain driver safety files and records. Supervise the Safety Associate and work to uptrain and improve their skill sets. Other duties as assigned. Requirements and Qualifications: Commitment to embrace and promote the Company’s core values. Undergraduate degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a similar science-related degree is a plus. Minimum 5 years’ experience managing safety programs in the chemical, petrochemical, or transportation industries. Comprehensive knowledge of DOT/FMCSA and OSHA regulations/administration. CQA qualification in auditing techniques and investigative root-cause analysis is a plus. Strong attention to detail. Required leadership and management skills include the ability to motivate and influence others, focus on teamwork, and an emphasis on continuous improvement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency with PC software e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint is necessary for this position. Self-motivated with good critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and decision-making skills. Organized. Physical and Environmental Factors: Must be able to climb stairs and ladders including but not limited to trailers, tractors, and railcars. Must be able to work long hours from time to time or outside normal work hours to respond to emergency events. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 25lbs with a team lift if necessary. Comfortable safely working around hazardous chemicals and in a loud industrial setting in all seasonal conditions.
