Job Overview
The Store Manager at PetSmart is responsible for leading the store operations including the safety of our associates and pets, enhancing pet parent experience, ensuring operational excellence, achieving financial targets, and overseeing all human resource functions. Exemplary leadership is essential as the Store Manager drives the culture and strategies of the company, ensuring an exceptional pet parent experience and efficient management of daily store activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • People Leadership:
    • Manage recruitment, hiring, coaching, and terminations.
    • Foster an open-door culture where associates feel valued, and feedback is actively sought through the Voice of Associate tool.
    • Create and maintain store schedules with input from team leaders.
    • Enhance the associate experience through mentoring, performance reviews, recognition, and team building activities.
    • Empower associates by delegating effectively and encouraging accountability.
    • Facilitate communication and ensure alignment among associates regarding priorities and goals.
    • Address and resolve associate complaints professionally.
    • Recognize and celebrate achievements to boost associate engagement.
  • Store Experience Management:
    • Lead the associate and pet parent experience at all levels, ensuring the highest level of safety and care for pets.
    • Responsible for addressing pet parent experiences and resolving concerns, whether in-person, over the phone, or online.
    • Create an engaging store environment focused on exceptional experiences for both pet parents and associates.
    • Continuously evaluate operations, identifying areas for improvement and enhancements.
    • Collaborate with leadership for effective community and in-store events.
    • Maintain high store standards and lead compliance with policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular safety and operational evaluations to ensure a secure environment.
    • Manage inventory effectively to guarantee product availability.
    • Communicate business objectives transparently with the store leadership team.
    • Oversee safety practices through regular reviews of in-store camera footage.
    • Act promptly in case of sick or injured pets, coordinating necessary care.
  • Business Management:
    • Execute corporate strategies and profitability goals effectively.
    • Analyze store reporting to address issues and implement improvement plans.
    • Identify growth opportunities while holding associates accountable for sales and shrink targets.
    • Manage operational costs including labor and supplies.
    • Coordinate with home office for store-related needs and resources.
    • Ensure the accurate processing of payroll and labor management within financial budgets.
    • Complete required reporting and paperwork reliably.
    • Support store operations by running necessary errands as needed.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of experience in retail leadership or a customer-focused setting.
  • Full-time availability, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to remain composed under pressure and maintain a positive demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

Leadership Structure:
Typically supervises various associates, fostering a team-centered culture in alignment with PetSmart's policies.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and engage in physical tasks related to pet care and store operations.
  • Capacity to lift and move items up to 50 pounds consistently and occasionally over 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Exposure to varied conditions including noise and live animals.
